Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh awards $456,000 in grants. Huny is a graduate of Howard University’s College of Fine Arts, a founding and executive board member of Carnegie Museum of Art’s Carnegie Art Associates, one of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s “12 People to Meet in Pittsburgh 2018”, “Who’s Next in Art” via Incline Magazine, and #72 on The Root 100 (2017), an annual list of the most influential African-Americans. AMERICAN WOMAN has been on-view at Ace Hotel Pittsburgh (Feb – June 2018) and Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild as part of the exhibition (Jan 14 – April 5, 2019). Her expansive projects over the years include The Women’s Freedom Conference: a 12-hour digital conference that centered women of color worldwide 1839: a Pittsburgh-based magazine that offered a nuanced perspective of race, politics, the arts, and culture in the city and beyond and AMERICAN WOMAN, an award-winning portrait and documentary series about Black American women that received the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grant in 2016. Currently, her event collective, Darkness is Spreading, is in residence at Ace Hotel Pittsburgh and Allsummr.Ī veteran of the tech industry, huny launched her first website in 1999 and is roundly considered a web design pioneer. More recently, huny served as Director of Marketing & Communications at Pittsburgh Filmmakers / Center for the Arts, a non-profit arts organization, and has contributed to Pittsburgh City Paper as a freelance photographer. Born in Denver and bred in NYC, huny previously enjoyed senior and director tenures at BET/Viacom and VIBE Magazine before moving to Pittsburgh to form start-up agency Supreme Clientele. Sarah huny young is a creative director, visual artist, photographer, event curator, and DJ.
